Hello — I seem to remember that the Catholic Worker house was interested in donations of books (not childrens books) for the house. Is this still true? What sorts of things are you interested in? I am cleaning up in my house and I have a lot of good books for people who like reading!

    1. Hi Jonathan,
Yes, books are always in demand at our soup kitchen library. Any type of book except religious/theology, home and auto repair etc. What is very popular are fiction and non-fiction — sports, novels, westerns (L’Amour etc), less popular but still requested are biography, autobiography, technology, law, philosophy, spirituality. Thank you for remembering us.

I have used shoes and clothes. Would you accept these either at the kitchen location or the house?
    Thanks.

    1. Hi Dennis,

Thank you for contacting us, however, at present we are not accepting
clothes donations. Our space is limited and because of a major illness,
the person who handled clothes distribution can no longer coordinate it.
As for shoes, we already have a weekly donation of several pairs of shoes
that are used with our foot care program. Again, thank you for thinking of
      us.

      Peace,

      Mike

    Hello,
I am so grateful that you are still serving the residents and visitors of Los Angeles. I volunteered in the mid 1970’s, when I was a student, and the Catholic Worker community helped me survive spiritually. I helped make food, talked to guests about baseball, attended a weekly community mass, and painted (badly) the stair rail at the Hospitality House in Boyle Heights, as I recall.
    I will make a donation.
    Best wishes,
    Nancy

    Hi,
In the past I know you have collected calendars for the kitchen’s guest. Will you want them this year? I collect them from my student’s families and my co-workers who are already asking if I’m collecting for this year. So, just let me know. Also, as an FYI /heads up – I’ve been a pretty reliable supplier of empty medicine bottles for your hygiene program. Because my school is not opening, I won’t be collecting from the families until we are back in person, and I have no idea when that might be.

    Best wishes to you all,
    Michelle

    1. We are collecting 2021 calendars. Thank you for reaching out!

Hi L.A. Catholic Worker Family, I recently send you some walking canes, I am 75 and know the importance of a cane at my age, and how it could be to the people you serve. I see it in your wish list all the time. Take care. Ray

    1. Thank you for the contribution!

I’ve been a big fan of the CW since the days of Dorothy Day Ammon Hennacy, and even Michael Harrington.

It’s giving Tuesday and I can’t contribute online, but “the check’s in the mail”

Thanks for all you do and have done!

My brothers and I are sending a contribution in memory and honor of our beloved aunt Patty Carmody. Thank you, LACW, for having welcomed and treasured her.

I am making a donation in memory of Robert Harper. We went to grammar school together and only recently reconnected through our grammar school reunion. Looks like he lived a good life of service and I am happy to see his son is carrying on the tradition. May he Rest in Peace
