Cats

Why This Page?  Simple, cats are cute. Also, cats are peaceful. Well sort of, aside from a tendency to hunt, kill, and eat mice, they have never built a nuclear weapon or invaded anything, except our hearts. These are our current cats. Many more have passed over the rainbow bridge.

House Cat - Boots.8993

Boots, a wandering stray, spent his first few months at the Catholic Worker running from all who approached. One day he decided to join Benny during his morning exercises (he must have a fondness for yoga) and has since become our most affectionate cat. His favorite pastime is rubbing his head on people while being petted.

Fake Cat

This amazing fake cat actually looks real, even up close, and actually appears to be breathing as the stomach moves up and down. This cat is a permanent fixture in our memorial garden at our hospitality kitchen.

My wife volunteered at the LA catholic worker in the late 1980’s. I went
down there once with her and spent the day making salads for perhaps 200 men.

This was one of the best days I have ever had. After growing up in LA for more than 28 years,
I was confronted for the first time, by these people ranging from ‘just between jobs’ to people
suffering from severe untreated mental illness, absolutley destitute, I was reminded how incredibly
    rich we are.

I’m sure the problems are even more intense now.

I would recommend spending a day there if for no other reason than for the feelings of rejuvenation
you will encounter when you are confronted with the true violent reality of our existence as compared
with theirs. We are so blessed. This said, we should be doing this work for more than that reason alone
for sure. There are countless other reasons to do this type of work. For me, it was one of the more intense
experiences I have had. So far.

    Tom.

  2. Lovely cat pictures. In my lifetime (Iam now 64)I have been owned my 10 cats, not to mention numerous kittens along the way. They are great friends.

I wish you well with your work.

  3. Beautiful cats. I love Eleanor! I also love to hear about helping animals in need. Good job.

  4. I love cats so so much! I think it’s great that you have cats at Hennesy House, and the pictures are so cute. I volunteered at the Casa de Clara in San Jose, and they didn’t have any pets. I hope I can meet these guys soon!

  5. Great Pictures. I love them.

Just introduced to your newsletter today and found the cats!!! I LOVE them. They are the most amazing creatures and the BEST thing for stress release despite the scratches and bites. My cat Jasmine, is similar to Boots’ coloring and temperament.I will need to tell her of your fun page! Thank you.

I had a cat many years ago, his name was Michin. He was 16 years old when he died, Michin was born in my house. I’ll never forget my cat.
